In the wild, they feed on seeds, berries and nuts. You can give them whole nuts as they love to crack open the shell to extract the seed. Their beaks are specially adapted for this function. Pellets are a must as they provide your bird a balanced diet. You can give them all types of fruits and dark green and yellow vegetables. You can also give them food rich in proteins such as legumes, cooked eggs and grated cheese. Occasionally, you can give the cockatoo cooked meat bones. However, seasoned meat or fatty processed meats are to be avoided. If your bird's diet is a variety of all that it should be eating, a supplement of vitamins and minerals is not required.
