Birds are also territorial. Even if it is an animal that is intruding into its territory the bird will attack instinctively. If you do have a cockatoo with other four-legged pets, make sure that when they are together they are under your supervision. If this happens when you are around, call out to it affectionately. Hold out a bowl of its favorite treat. Normally, the bird should fly back to you. Cockatiels are the most talkative of the Cockatoo species. If you want a companion bird you want to make conversation with, then it's  the Cockatiel for you. Cockatiels even make fantastic pets for pre-teens.
